A Thousand Islands Birthday Getaway: Romance and Relaxation in Clayton, NY

For my husband’s birthday a few years ago, I wanted to whisk him away on a relaxing escape filled with stunning scenery and unforgettable experiences. With kids and working in a school, going far in June is not going to happen. After some searching and recommendations, I stumbled upon the charming village of Clayton, New York, nestled amidst the captivating beauty of the Thousand Islands. And the perfect place to stay? The luxurious 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel.

Luxury on the Waterfront:

From the moment we arrived at the 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel, we were swept away by its elegance. The meticulously maintained grounds offered breathtaking views of the St. Lawrence Seaway, a sight that left us speechless. As the only AAA Four Diamond property in Clayton, and one of only 24 in upstate New York, the hotel promised an exceptional experience, and it certainly delivered.

Spacious Comfort with a View:

Our room was a haven of comfort and luxury. The spacious accommodations offered stunning panoramic river views in many cases, and some even boasted private balconies – the perfect spot for enjoying a morning cup of coffee or an evening glass of wine while soaking in the scenery. It is amazing to watch the unbelievably large ships that pass by, it is amazing that some of them even float!

Relaxation and Recreation:

The hotel provided a variety of options for relaxation and recreation. We could have spent many happy hours lounging by the sparkling indoor pool and hot tub, unwinding after a day of exploring the surrounding area, but there was too much to do that we did not want to miss out on. The fully equipped fitness center allowed me to stick to his workout routine, and for those seeking a more indulgent experience, the upscale dining and cocktails at the Seaway Grille and 1000 Islands Bar were a welcome treat.

Riverside Romance:

The hotel truly catered to creating a romantic atmosphere. We enjoyed several evenings relaxing on the Riverside Patio, watching the sun set over the water as we sipped on a glass of wine or sampled a locally brewed craft beer. The crackling fire pits provided a touch of ambiance, making these evenings truly unforgettable.

Culinary Delights:

The on-site Seaway Grille provided exceptional dining experiences throughout the day. From the delicious breakfast buffet each morning to the delectable lunch and dinner options, the restaurant never disappointed. The convenience of having breakfast, lunch, and dinner readily available within the hotel was a big plus, especially on those days when relaxation was the priority.

Clayton provided the perfect base for exploring the Thousand Islands region.
