Hiking Camelback Mountain: A Must-Do Adventure in Phoenix, Arizona

The Hershey Car Museum: Hershey, Pennsylvania

Step Back Into Transportation History at the Hershey Car Museum

As a mom of a 14-year-old car enthusiast, I’m always on the lookout for experiences that fuel his passion for all things automotive. That’s exactly what led our family to the AACA Museum in Hershey, Pennsylvania, also known as the Hershey Car Museum. This incredible museum isn’t just a collection of vintage vehicles—it’s a journey through automotive history, complete with beautifully recreated historic street scenes, hands-on interactive exhibits, and some truly iconic movie cars.

From the moment we stepped inside, we were transported through time, marveling at classic cars showcased in period-accurate settings. But what really caught our attention were the famous film vehicles on display—including the bus from Forrest Gump and the high-speed bus from Speed! Whether you’re a die-hard car lover or just someone who appreciates history and pop culture, this museum has something for everyone.

One of the highlights of the AACA Museum in Hershey is its interactive exhibits, which bring automotive history to life in a fun and engaging way. Visitors can hop into a Model T for a hands-on experience, exploring what it was like to drive one of the earliest cars on the road. Kids (and kids at heart) will love the driving simulators, where they can test their skills behind the wheel. There’s also a fascinating exhibit that lets you step inside a real Tucker factory scene, showcasing how these rare and innovative cars were built. One of the most unique hands-on experiences is the miniature assembly line, where visitors can build their own model car, getting a glimpse into the intricate process of automobile manufacturing. For bus enthusiasts, the museum’s full-size bus exhibit even allows you to walk through historic transit vehicles. Whether you’re a lifelong car lover or just curious about how automobiles have evolved, these hands-on experiences make the museum an unforgettable stop on your Hershey adventure!

If you’re a fan of automotive history, one of the must-see exhibits at the AACA Museum in Hershey, Pennsylvania, is the Tucker Gallery, dedicated to one of the most innovative and controversial cars of the 20th century—the Tucker 48. During our recent visit to the museum, my 14-year-old car enthusiast was completely captivated by the story of Preston Tucker and his dream to revolutionize the automobile industry.

In the late 1940s, Preston Tucker set out to create a “car of the future”—one that was safer, more powerful, and ahead of its time. The Tucker 48, also known as the Tucker Torpedo, featured groundbreaking innovations, including a rear-mounted engine, a third central headlight that turned with the steering wheel, a reinforced safety frame, and a padded dashboard. These features were revolutionary in an era when many cars still lacked seatbelts!

Unfortunately, the Tucker Corporation faced immense legal and financial struggles, largely due to pushback from the established auto industry and government investigations. Only 51 Tucker cars were ever produced before the company was forced to shut down, making them one of the rarest and most sought-after collector cars today. Despite its short-lived production, the Tucker 48 remains a symbol of innovation, ambition, and what could have been.

The AACA Museum houses one of the most comprehensive Tucker exhibits in the world, giving visitors an up-close look at these legendary vehicles. The exhibit features three authentic Tucker 48 cars, including one of the original prototypes. You can also explore Tucker engines, original design sketches, and memorabilia, all of which tell the story of Preston Tucker’s ambitious dream.

One of the most interactive parts of the exhibit is the Tucker factory scene, where visitors can step into a recreation of the assembly line, showcasing how these cars were built. My son especially loved seeing the cutaway displays that reveal the innovative mechanics inside the Tucker 48. The museum does a fantastic job of bringing history to life, making it easy to understand why this car was so ahead of its time.

One of the best things about visiting the AACA Museum in Hershey is its fantastic location—it’s just a short five-minute drive from Hersheypark! If you’re already planning a trip to the “Sweetest Place on Earth,” adding a stop at the car museum is an easy and worthwhile addition to your itinerary. Whether you visit before an action-packed day of roller coasters or wind down after indulging in all things chocolate, the museum offers a relaxing and engaging experience for the whole family.

If you’re planning a visit to the AACA Museum in Hershey, Pennsylvania, you’ll be happy to know that it’s open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, giving you plenty of time to explore its impressive collection of classic and historic vehicles. Admission is budget-friendly, with tickets priced at $16 for adults, $14.50 for seniors (61+), and $10 for kids aged 4-12, while little ones under 4 get in for free. Active-duty military members can also enjoy complimentary admission with a valid ID. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door, making it easy to plan your trip. Keep in mind that the museum is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day, so be sure to check your calendar before heading out. Whether you’re a die-hard car enthusiast or just looking for a fun family outing, this museum is a must-visit while in Hershey!

Harbor Hotel Clayton, New York 1,000 Islands

A Taste of Oswego History

A Foodie Adventure at Rudy’s Lakeside & Bev’s Dairy Treats

Oswego, New York isn’t just a place steeped in history; it’s also a haven for delicious eats! On a recent trip back to my college town, I revisited two local favorites that offer a perfect blend of nostalgia and culinary delight: Rudy’s Lakeside and Bev’s Dairy Treats.

Rudy’s Lakeside: A Legacy of Fresh Seafood and Lakeside Charm

Established in 1946, Rudy’s Lakeside has been a cornerstone of Oswego dining for generations. This seasonal gem (open March-October) boasts stunning views of Lake Ontario and a menu that celebrates fresh, local ingredients. Watching your food cooked to order right before your eyes adds to the charm.

A Feast for All Tastes:

Rudy’s is famous for its iconic seafood, and rightfully so! Whether you’re craving succulent fried clams, a hearty lobster roll, or a perfectly grilled piece of fish, Rudy’s delivers. But don’t worry, landlubbers – they have you covered too! Their juicy burgers, veggie burgers (my personal favorite!), and an array of perfectly fried vegetables (the fried zucchini is a must-try!) cater to all appetites.

Spice Up Your Life (or Not):

A visit to Rudy’s wouldn’t be complete without experiencing their legendary “Rudy’s Homemade Texas Hot Sauce.” This spicy meat sauce is a house specialty, and a local favorite for a reason. They even offer a helpful note for newbies: anything ordered “HOT” automatically comes loaded with raw onions, mustard, and of course, the sauce. For those who prefer a milder experience, there are plenty of other options.

Adult Beverages and Lakeside Bliss:

After indulging in a delicious meal, relax and soak in the beautiful scenery. Rudy’s offers a selection of adult beverages, including beers and wine slushies, perfect for enjoying the iconic sunset over the lake.

See the entire Rudy’s Menu here.

Bev’s Dairy Treats: The Perfect Sweet Ending

Just a short walk down the road from Rudy’s lies Bev’s Dairy Treats, another Oswego institution. Open seasonally (March-October), Bev’s is the perfect spot to end your lakeside dining experience with a sweet treat.

A Celebration of Ice Cream (and Beyond):

Bev’s boasts Perry’s Ice Cream, a local favorite known for its rich and creamy flavors. They also offer refreshing slushies, perfect for a hot summer day. The best part? Bev’s caters to all dietary needs! As someone who struggles with dairy, I was thrilled to discover their selection of delicious non-dairy options. My recent visit included a delightful blueberry pancake hard ice cream (dairy-free!) with a delightful maple flavor and a blueberry swirl, while my husband enjoyed a refreshing mango raspberry Dole Whip (also non-dairy!). The boys, of course, went for the traditional Perry’s flavors, complete with a mountain of toppings. The portions are incredibly generous, so be warned – you might just have to share (or save some for later!).

A Step Back in Time with a Modern Twist:

A visit to Rudy’s Lakeside and Bev’s Dairy Treats is a delightful journey through Oswego’s culinary history. The fresh, delicious food, stunning location, and friendly atmosphere make these restaurants true gems. So, next time you find yourself in Oswego, be sure to add these local favorites to your itinerary. Your taste buds (and your Instagram feed!) will thank you!circle

Pratt’s Falls

This Mother’s Day, my amazing boys surprised me with the perfect gift: a brand new pair of hiking boots! They knew I’d been itching to get out and explore some trails, so they planned a fantastic outing to Pratt’s Falls Park in Pompey, New York.

Pratt’s Falls turned out to be the ideal destination for a family hike. The park itself is beautiful, with scenic trails leading to a cascading 137-foot waterfall. What I especially loved was that you can actually view the falls from an observation area right near the parking lot – perfect for those who might not be up for a hike, or families with young children. There are even picnic tables, pavilions, and a small playground with swings and seesaws, making it a great spot for a relaxing afternoon.

But of course, with my new boots begging to be put to the test, we opted to explore further. Little did I know, Pratt’s Falls boasts a rich history as the site of Onondaga County’s first mill operation in 1796! The boys filled me in on all the fun facts they learned about the saw mill and flour mill that once stood here, powered by the very waterfall we were about to explore.

The park offers a variety of trails to suit all interests. We conquered the Falls Trail, a moderate 0.6-mile trek that led us down to a breathtaking lower view of the cascading water. The trail was well-maintained and easy to navigate, even with my brand new boots (although a slight break-in period was definitely required!).

For the more adventurous hikers, Pratt’s Falls has a network of four trails to choose from: the North Rim Trail (a scenic 2.6-mile adventure), the West Branch Trail (a shorter 1.2-mile option), and the North Rim Crossover Trail (clocking in at 1.6 miles). We decided to save those for another visit – gotta give those new boots a proper workout, right?

One thing to keep in mind is that while Pratt’s Falls is a dog-friendly park, furry companions must be on a 6-foot leash and have proof of rabies vaccination. It is always great when we can bring our rescue pup, Lily along for the hike. There’s also a public restroom on-site, which is always a plus!

The best part? Entering the park is a breeze – just a $2 donation via a convenient honor system box.

Overall, our hike at Pratt’s Falls was the perfect way to celebrate Mother’s Day. It was a beautiful escape into nature, filled with stunning scenery, a touch of history, and the joy of spending time with my wonderful boys. If you’re looking for a family-friendly park with easy access to waterfalls and hiking trails, I highly recommend checking out Pratt’s Falls!

Nestled amidst the scenic Finger Lakes region of New York, Watkins Glen State Park beckons nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike. This park, steeped in history and boasting dramatic natural beauty, promises an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages.

A Walk Through Time:

Watkins Glen State Park was established in 1906, making it one of New York’s oldest state parks. The gorge itself, carved by glaciers thousands of years ago, is a geological marvel. Lush greenery carpets the cliffs, cascading waterfalls serenade hikers, and sunlight dances on the crystal-clear water below, creating a scene straight out of a fairytale.

Planning Your Adventure:

The park is open year-round, but the busiest times are during the summer months (June-August) and fall foliage season (late September-mid October). Be prepared for crowds, especially on weekends and holidays.

The centerpiece of the park is the iconic Gorge Trail, a 1.5-mile path that winds its way along the rim of the gorge, offering breathtaking views of 19 cascading waterfalls. The trail is well-maintained and mostly paved, making it accessible for hikers of all abilities. However, there are over 800 stone steps along the way, so be prepared for a bit of a workout!

For the more adventurous, there’s the North Rim Trail, which offers stunning vistas from the top of the gorge. This trail is steeper and less crowded than the Gorge Trail, making it a great option for those seeking a more challenging hike with a touch of solitude.

Beyond Hiking:

Watkins Glen State Park offers more than just stunning hikes. The park also features picnic areas, a playground, and a swimming area (during the summer months). In the nearby town of Watkins Glen, you’ll find a variety of restaurants serving everything from casual fare to fine dining.
